Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez said she has accepted a role as mother of three grown children in an upcoming movie for Viva Films, in which she will star opposite real-life boyfriend, singer-songwriter, Ogie Alcasid.
“In the past, I didn’t want to accept mother roles, but now, I realize it’s the next logical step in my career,” she said of the movie, which is still in the pre-production stage. “Hindi naman pwedeng puro teeny-bopper na lang lagi ang roles ko.”
Velasquez said she will play the mother of Dingdong Dantes, Dennis Trillo and an unnamed actress, who are part of the star-studded cast.
Piolo Pascual, who was once paired with her in the 2007 movie “Paaano Kita Iibigin,” was considered for Dantes’ role, but he was not allowed to take part in the film by his home studio, Velasquez said in an interview.
The story will focus on a whirlwind romance between Velasquez’ character Karla and Alcasid’s character Biboy, who both get stranded on an island. When they return home, Karla’s children will oppose the love affair and try to end it, Velasquez said.
“This is definitely one of my most challenging roles and I’m really excited to work with Ogie, and of course, Dingdong and Dennis,” she said.
If the plans push through, the untitled film may go head-to-head against Star Cinema’s own Mother’s Day offering, which will star Sharon Cuneta and Ai-Ai Delas Alas.
Velasquez, who is seen nightly on GMA-7’s action series “Totoy Bato” opposite Robin Padilla, said she suggested that special makeup be used to make her features older and “more losyang,” so that her being mother to Dantes’ and Trillo’s characters would be believable.
“But Direk Joel (Lamangan) said it wasn’t necessary anymore,” she said.

“But Direk Joel (Lamangan) said it wasn’t necessary anymore,” she said.
Oh that’s so mean. Haha.
================
If Lamangan should direct this, what is the social relevance of this film?
la flash! what’s mean about that? how come i’ve been getting a lot of comments like that lately? *scratches head*
ang social relevance nya is roughly equal to the social relevance of “when i met u.”
after all, waste matter serves a purpose, too, in the greater scheme of things.
“But Direk Joel (Lamangan) said it wasn’t necessary anymore,” she said.
title pa lang pero bakit ganitong tema na ang naiisip ko?
Just passing by.Btw, your website have great content!

“But Direk Joel (Lamangan) said it wasn’t necessary anymore,” she said.
agree! so mean nga! hahhaha! saka hindi ko makita yung point ng movie.. walang kwenta! hahaha!
predictable ba, mamimaster? wehehe!
sassy, napanood mo na ba ang totoy bato? ako, hindi pa, but based on the snippets i caught a few nights ago, i believe regine is playing robin padilla’s aunt in the series. hindi ako sure ha, pero posible ring ninang or nanay, basta ganun yung nase-sense ko. wahaha!
c’mon, now, fjordz, if that’s “mean,” ano pa’ng masasabi mo sa comment ni sassy?
a bit predictable. haller!?! regine and old age go together kaya like lamb and tuna fish! it’s like saying jolina is jologs. you write well my friend, but next time please avoid redundancies.
hehehe
duly noted, mamimaster. regine=old age. i’ve learned something new today.
and don’t worry, i’ll try to be more careful next time.
regine by her own admissionwas born in 1969 so she’ll be 40 years old this year. in an defunct abscbn investigative show on abscbn, the researchers found out that in nso her birth year was 1968 so she’s 41 this year. so she hsould stp playing all those patweetums roles.
Regine should therefore use her true name, Chona. and then, being a senior or veteran in the industry, she should add a title which would show her seniority.
We love you Manang Chona!
